Botswana
Botswana is the country where all your dreams about an African safari
experience can come true!
The Okavango Delta is breathtaking and unique. It is the largest inland delta
in the world, instead of flowing into the sea, the annual flood of fresh water
flows inland, spreading over 15 000 km2 of the Kalahari desert and
creating an oasis of channels and lagoons.
The countless islands that emerge from its waterways give shelter to several
different ecosystems rich in game and birds. Most of the large mammals on the
continent can be found in Botswana; Elephants, Buffalos, Red Lechwes, Lions,
Leopards and Cheetahs occur in great number and Botswana has the largest
remaining population of the endangered Wild Dog. Over 500 species of birds
have been identified here.
Chobe National Park hosts the greatest concentration of elephant on earth.
The Savuti plain is one of the best areas in Africa for wild life documentaries.
It’s here, around the water holes that you will have a chance to see some of the
most interesting hunting actions and a huge diversity of game all at the same
time.
The Chobe River provides the best boat-based animal watching in Africa. There are
literally hundreds of Elephants, Hippos and Crocodiles and plenty of Lions and
other predators, all of which can be seen from the river prospective. The birdlife
is amazing, and besides the 200 different species that you can count in one day
you will have good chances to spot some rarities.
Everywhere you look there is something to take a picture of.
The sun set on a Chobe River is always breathtaking.
Makgadikgadi Pan, in contrast with the Delta is a huge dry salt pan, transformed
into a birder's paradise after the rains.
Experience the silence in this remote place. Emotions that tongue can’t
tell.
Kalahari Desert is in reality a semi desert which supports lots of game.
Few group of San People still live here. Hunting and gathering, they are the only
to be able to survive in the Kalahari. You can experience their life style, they can
show you their hunting technique, or you can just be honored to see their trance
dance around the fire while a guide will explain their incredible, huge
culture.
After visiting Botswana, you will return again and again to this magnificent
untouched havens as many Mal d’Africa clients are doing!
The country is about the size of France and is landlocked between South Africa,
Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
At independence from Britain in 1966, it was a sparsely populated impoverished nation
with only 8km (5 miles) of tarred road. Now it has over 3,200km (2,000 miles) of good
roads and diamonds have made it one of Africa's wealthiest countries. It is also
probably the safest and most peaceful of all African countries.
This democratic country has conserved its wild land more then any other country in the
world. The commitment to conserve their treasure is a policy of 'low impact, high cost'
giving to the visitors a high standard of accommodations and services. Also the more
affordable choice of a mobile tended camp is always held in a luxury style and in the
most pristine and secluded areas.
The rainy season generally start in October or November and persist through to March
or April attracting huge influx of bird. Many grazing animals also give birth at this
time, as the landscape is lush and there is an abundance of food.
In April, temperatures begin to fall and May is generally regarded as the first month
of the dry, cool winter, characterized by clear sunny days and cold nights. Spring
begins in August and temperatures rise rapidly during the hot, dry period of September,
October and November until the rains again break.
Health precautions
The northern part of Botswana is a malaria area and is advised to take prophylaxis.
