Does malaria exist in Southern Africa?
Yes it does. Malaria is endemic in the Northern Province and Mpumalanga, northern KwaZulu Natal, Okavango Delta and Mozambique. If you are traveling in one of this areas, please consult a heath-care professional for a malaria prophylaxis. Even if you are taking malaria prophylaxis, you can still get malaria if you are bitten by an infected anopheles mosquito. To prevent this, use also a mosquito repellent in the early morning and in the afternoon. Wear long sleeved shirts and long pants, socks and sleep under a net.

Which prophylaxis must be taken traveling in Uganda?
Yellow fever is compulsory and malaria prophylaxis is highly recommended.

Which is the main language spoken in Southern Africa?
English is largely spoken in all the countries.
German is largely spoken in Namibia.
Portuguese is the official language in Mozambique.

Auto banks (ATM's, automated teller machines) are found in most towns and operate on a 24 hour basis. Bank operate from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:30 and on Saturday from 09:00 to 11:00. Most international traveler’s cheques are accepted at most banks.

Electricity
The electricity is 220/230 volts. Three pronged plugs are used in South Africa so remember to take an adapter. You can find it at all South African airports.
Most hotel rooms have 110 volt outlets for electric shavers and small appliances.

Which code must I dial to phone overseas directly from Southern Africa?
South Africa: you must first dial 09, then dial the country code, area code of the city or region and the number of the person you wish to call.

Which is the best time to visit South Africa?
South Africa is famous for its sunshine.
Most of the country has warm, sunny days and cool nights.
Rainfall occurs during summer (November to March) in the north east while in the southwest, around Cape Town, rainfall occurs in winter (June to August).

Is it safe to drive and walk in the cities in South Africa? South Africa is a developing country and crime does exist, especially in the big cities as per the rest of the world.
